Teen MOPS Event

Clyde Park Church of the Nazarene Teen MOPS Group - Special Event

Ryan Dobson, son of James and Shirley Dobson comes to Van Singel Fine Arts Center on September 27, 2008 to bring the “kick-off” message for the Clyde Park Church of the Nazarene (CPCN) Teen MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). Ryan’s ministry is called “KOR Ministries” which is focused on the youth of our nation. The CPCN Teen MOPS group will begin meeting on September 9, 2008 and run through September 2009.

Teen MOPS is similar to a Classic MOPS group in the way that the programs are designed to draw in moms from our community that otherwise may not be reached through traditional outreaches, and to change the family by changing the heart of the mom. The main difference is that the moms who come to Teen MOPS are just that, teenage moms. Their ages are 20 years old and under with kids 6 years and under. The curriculum is also a little different and group discussions range from how to balance a checkbook, to how to discipline your two year old. The church sees this as a community outreach and their hope is for this program to grow and that other churches will want to start their own groups so that every girl who wants to join will have a Teen MOPS group close to home.

Tickets for this special event are available for $20 if purchased in advance. There is a special discount for admission to groups (especially teen youth groups). Tickets will be $25 at the door. Proceeds will go to underwrite this new Teen MOPS chapter needing $5,000 to cover some event costs and base of operation expenses since the group meets prior to the September event.

This new Teen MOPS chapter is looking for sponsors and volunteers for the event. The three top sponsors will be featured on the inside page of our tri-fold program as well as on a large banner to be hung in the foyer of the Fine Arts Center.

Alpha’s New “Step Up” Program Addresses Teen Parenthood

Alpha has a new program addressing the issue of teenage parenthood, beginning this fall called “Step Up.” It is a collaborative, innovative, fun and creative interactive learning experience for young moms 15-18 years old. The purpose of the “Step Up” Program is to motivate self-confidence in the lives of desperate mothers by emphasizing the importance of teen abstinence, self esteem, and developing a life plan. The program will provide a pathway to the completion of a GED, assist with job preparation, and teach the girls how to give back to the community. A hopeful outcome of “Step Up” is the reduction of unplanned pregnancies, STDs, and the reliance on government assistance by giving the girls hope and a plan for a brighter future.

If you know a young mom who could benefit from this new program or for more information on “Step UP” contact Carmen Hodge, Alpha Program Director at 616-742-0242 or at chodge@alphawc.org
